The Walls.io Event Engagement Index 2026 is based on an independent online survey conducted between February 2 and February 9, 2026, with 102 professionals who regularly attend industry events. Respondents included marketing leaders and business decision-makers from industries such as technology, marketing and communications, media, professional services, and event management, many of whom had attended conferences, trade shows, and corporate events within the past year. The survey examined attendee behavior, engagement preferences, participation habits, and perceptions of event content and credibility, providing a snapshot of how modern audiences interact with events before, during, and after the experience.

This report is designed for event marketers, organizers, brand teams, community leads, and agencies who want evidence-based guidance on increasing audience participation, content creation, and perceived event value.
The report covers attendee motivations (networking vs. learning vs. promotion), the role of live participation, preferred engagement channels (event screens, social media, apps, on-site touchpoints), trust in peer-generated content, and behavioral barriers to posting during events.
The findings show that attendees expect active involvement throughout the event journey, not passive consumption. Participation is preferred across multiple moments (arrival, sessions, breaks, exhibitor areas), with flexibility playing a critical role in perceived engagement quality.
Interactive formats such as Q&A sessions, polls, and visible participation on event screens are favored over purely aesthetic elements or static presentations. Multi-channel interaction, both on-site and on social media, is common.
The research demonstrates that engagement is central to event success. Connection, visible participation, and peer-driven content directly influence attendee satisfaction and long-term brand perception.
